Plant description |
Canopy tree to 25 m situated 1 m from the path. Strong bark, dry slash oxidises after 10 seconds from a fresh cream to a brown colour. The scent from the bark slash was a fresh green ranalean odour without strong rank odour. There were no visible scarring or lenticels on the trunk, which was a light browny grey colour, the trunk surface was covered with lichens, as were the leaves. The branches were pointing upright and the trunk was straight. The leaves have a ranulean scent when crushed. The flowers were strongly scented with a honey odour, they attracted large amounts of insects specifically butterflies, and were a pale cream/white colour. |
Locality and habit remarks |
The site of collection was west of the eco hotel, Blue Morpho, which was our starting point, South of the La Mollata river, 200 metres down the path. The collection was taken 1 metre from the path. The tree was surrounded by evergreen lowland tropical forest, in close proximity were Chloranthaceae and Maranthaceae. |
