Biological attributes

Phenology Floración
Plant description Epiphytic herb. The stem is descending to horizontal and it is 8 x 2.5 cm. The sub-opposite leaves are clustered in a dense apical whorl. Petioles are yellow-green to pale red adaxially, rounded and flattened adaxially & around 15 cm long. The narrowly ovate leaf blade is up to 1 m x 25 cm, the lamina is adaxially mid green and abaxially pale green. The leaf apex is acuminate and the basis is attenuate. The leaf margin is sparsely serrate with rounded serrations. Young leaves are tinged brown. The inflorescence is composed of 15 to 30 flowers which are arranged in dense clusters arising from the axils of the leaves. Two flowers of the inflorescence arise directry from the stem while all the others arise from a rachis. The rachis is pink, 2 cm long with microphyll like structures. Inflorescence pedicels are 7 to 110 mm long, pale green to red at the base. The calyx is green with red-brown tips. The corolla tube is yellow on the inside with deep red dots and cream tinged yellow on the outside. The corolla lobes are cream white to pale rose towards the margin. The outside of the corolla have pale rose stripes an each lobe. The fruits are ovoid to ellipsoid, 9 x 4 mm with white tricomes.
Locality and habit remarks Tropical, lowland, evergreen, mid-Magdalena type rainforest on limestone. The plant was growing at the height of 2-3 m from the ground on a Malvaceae tree (prpbably of the genus Apeiba). The tree is about 25 m tall and its DBH is 50 cm. The specimen was found 10 to 15 m away from the blue morpho hotel in the direction of the parking lot. From the road side it is 10 meters in the direction the river. It was found on the last big tree before the river.
