Phenology Floración
Plant description Terrestial clump forming herb, with up to 6 leaves per shoot. Pseudostem oval in cross section with the widest part being 9 cm and the narrowest being 6 cm and the colour of the pseudostem is orange brown. Petiole length between 144 to 170 cm and the colour of the petiole is mid-green with orange brown dots. Leaf base oblique. Leaf lamina 190-125 x 45-42 cm, adaxially mid-green abaxially greyish purple and covered by lichens when old and pruinose abaxially when young. Midrip same as petiole. Inflorescence terminal up to 130 cm long and pendulous with up to 35 bracts per inflorescence. Bracts basal 1/3 red with the margin being yellow/green. Flower pale yellow and the fruit is pale violet.
Locality and habit remarks Found growing in the Magdalena valley in an evergreen lowland tropical rainforest on karst. The plant grew 3 meters above a slow bend in the river on a North-west facing steep slope with sandy and detritus rish soil. The immediate vicinity was dominated by several individuals of the same species and smaller shrubs. Bigger trees were present farther up the slope. Found growing 75 meters upstream from the concrete bridge crossing La Mulata river halfway along the acess road to Blue Morpho eco hotel. The plant grew 3 meters above river on a north-west facing slope.
