Plant description Subcanopy tree 6 m growing on steep slope under 20 m high canopy, smooth brown bark covered in lichens, no latex or scent. Small ramiflorous fruit growing in fascicles, unripe fruit green maturing to purple, five remnant sepals visible on base of fruit. DNA samples collected.
Locality and habit remarks Understorey in disturbed tropical lowland evergreen forest on steep limestone gulley, clayey/reddish soil covered in leaf litter, surrounding trees and shrubs include Rubiaceae and other Melastomataceae species. From main gate of Rio Claro Natural Reserve entrance, walking up Bogota to Medellin highway towards Medellin, entering dirt road to left on 300 deg bearing (W-N-W) opposite from cement factory, less than 300 m up hilly track.
